Ron Westall, 79, Oblong, Illinois died Friday, December 14, 2012, at the Ridgeview Care Center, Oblong, Illinois following a period of declining health.
Born Novembe 7, 1933, in Lawrence County, Ilinois he was the son of Vance & Edythe (Lynch) Westall. Ron graduated from Bridgeport High School ~ Class of 1951, where he set the school track record for the 1/2 mile. This record stood for over 50 years. Following high school Ron served in the U. S. Army Infantry for two years. His employment career included Mont Eagle Mills, Ralston Purina and Country Companies Insurance before retiring in 1995. Ron was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong; former member of the Oblong American Legion Post #219; 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Crawford County Shrine Club. He was also a member of several other local community organizations over the years. He enjoyed Canadian hunting and fishing trips with good friends, working in the garden and spending time with his family and friends. Ron was a friendly fellow who always had a smile and never met a stranger.
In 1957 Ron married Arlene Kirk, who preceded him in death in 1965. In 1966 he married Bernadine “Skip” Kilburn Murphy, who survives. Also surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug & Vicki Westall, Creve Coeur, Missouri and Richard Murphy & Julia Mittelstadt, St. Louis, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Gwenda & Gary Lanter, Oblong, Illinois and five grandsons, Braden Lanter, Ryan Westall, Eric Westall, Andrew Westall and Patrick Westall.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Billie Eaton.
Presiding the funeral service will be Pastor Mick Laflin. Burial will follow in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
